Hey everyone. Hanh Nguyen (or MogKnight if you prefer) here. I’m here to talk about the future of The Mog Blog and give an explanation on why things have been slowed down to a crawl as of late.
If you have kept up with the site updates, you’ll notice that most of our news articles has slowed down to almost one or two news articles a month. The last review done prior to our Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance review was written back in November 2012. The only real active and reoccurring feature that has been going on is Emily’s “Blowing Dust” series of articles.
Clearly, things have slowed down and almost stopped. Most of that is due to things not working out as well as I’d want. I wanted The Mog Blog to stand out more as something else other than just a straight up Press Release regurgitater with reviews that had more personality, with reoccurring features and blogs that had personality and a foundation for discussion among video gaming fans… with personality.
But this isn’t happening.
We’re spewing out Press Release stuff almost verbatim, our reviews could be a lot better, and we’re having a hard time finding a groove for everything.
The past few months, we went on an unannounced “break” of sorts. During this time, we’ve been working on fixing some of the back end technology to start a relaunch of The Mog Blog. That’s all technical stuff, that’s stuff that will simply make things cleaner and easier to reach our content. However, what is more important is creating that content that people will constantly come back to. What is more important is finding people who really enjoy what they love to do and to express that in such a way that we (the reader, writer, and everyone in this lovely circle) can find a common ground.
As such, The Mog Blog is still undefined in what niche it’s trying to go for. It’s a good and a bad thing at this point. In one hand, we’re not doing anything right now towards any particular niche, therefore we do not have a lot of things worthwhile to most people. In the other hand, we’re not set and defined yet, allowing us to freely aim and figure out exactly what we want to do.
In the few weeks and months, I will be continuing work on The Mog Blog’s back end. This will also give me time to essentially start over and figure out just where The Mog Blog will be going. We still have writers that are here. We are looking for more writers. We’re also looking for content creators outside of writing. We’re looking for people who will help stir this pot, to help create a community that goes beyond a webpage on the internet.
This will be a lot of work, but I think it’ll be fun to figure out where this will lead to in the future.
As of now, there’s no real set plans that I would like to 100% confirm as far as what we want to do for content. However, if you’re interested in defining and throwing your own piece into this well, you can either…
1. Contact me personally. (Email or Twitter are your best bets)
2. Spread this post around to all you know that may be interested in something like this.
3. Leave a comment here and let me know what you think we should or shouldn’t do.
In either case, things will be a bit slow for a little while longer. We’ll be back in better form by the end of all this. Maybe then we can talk about that PlayStation 4 that everyone’s babbling about.
